Welcome to the Milwaukee Peace Corps Association!

Fundraising

Our fall fundraising campaign is off to a successful start. So far, MPCA members and friends have donated $1,080 since fall 2009 to help MPCA fund projects in our community and around the world.

Facebook

Our Mission

MPCA is a community of former and future Peace Corps volunteers and families who continue to promote Peace Corps ideals through cultural education and the support of both local and international development organizations. It also provides social activities and emotional support for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and those returning from abroad.

Calendars

MPCA is once again selling the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers International Calendar. They cost $6 for MPCA members and $10 for everyone else, with proceeds going towards the various projects funded by MPCA. If you're interested in a calendar, please contact Tennie Bickham at 414-507-4032 or tbick1943@hotmail.com.

2009 Holiday Party

Our annual holiday party on December 12 was a great success, with quite possibly the best and most diverse potluck ever found in Milwaukee! Thanks to all who attended and brought food, and special thanks to Alterra Coffee for providing free coffee.

Be sure to check out photos from the event.

Announcing the Fall 2009 Recipients of $1,500 in MPCA Mini-Grants!

This fall the MPCA received several requests for financial assistance to help start-up and/or support community initiatives. This round of recipients includes 2 domestic and 3 international projects which will receive $300 each from the Milwaukee Peace Corps Association to help fund their community projects. We give a sincere 'Thank You' to all the donors who help keep the MPCA Mini-Grant program alive through your generous gifts! Click here to see a list of the recipients.

Board Vacancies

We are currently looking to fill two vacancies on the Board of Directors: newsletter editor and vice president. Serving on the board is a great way to keep connected to Peace Corps and it is also a lot of fun! If you're interested in serving the board, click here for an application and additional information about the open positions.

November 7: MPCA Annual Family and Parent Brunch

Our annual parent brunch is an opportunity for parents to connect with other families, learn more about what their volunteer may be experiencing during the Peace Corps process, and get informed on ways that they can assist their volunteer. This year was no exception. Thirty guests enjoyed the fantastic brunch provided by St. Francis Brewery. Panelists discussed the challenges and rewards of their service, a typical day as a volunteer, and a parent's perspective on her daughter's experience. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Photos are available here.

October PC Partnership Dinner Provides $570 in Donations for Two PCVs in Africa

On October 10th our fifth Peace Corps Partnership Dinner was held at the Ethiopian Cottage, a traditional Ethiopian restaurant located at 1824 N. Farwell Ave. in Milwaukee. For photos and more information, click here.

Summer Picnic and Potluck

Thank you all for coming out! About 50 people turned out for our summer potluck, and a great time was had by all!

Host a Social Activity

Do you want to meet more newly returned volunteers? Want to meet others who like the same outdoor activities? Want to try a new ethnic restaurant? We invite you to host a social activity and use our listserv to promote it.

Our MPCA network is a great way to connect with others who share an interest in global issues, international travel, ethnic food and music. The MPCA listserv includes RPCVs, prospective volunteers, current volunteers and their family members, and other globally minded individuals.

MPCA sponsors major events each year that provide an opportunity for you to socialize (July summer picnic, November Parent and Family Brunch, December Ethnic Potluck, the Spring send-off, and two Peace Corps Partnership dinners at ethnic restaurants).

But now it's up to you for other activities! The MPCA board and social coordinator have scheduled monthly social activities with limited attendance in the past few years. So we offer you the opportunity to plan something that you want to do and welcome others to join you. Give folks the details they need about location, cost, and how to contact you. (Include your email address as a link so they don't reply to entire listserv).

MPCA T-Shirts

We are still selling MPCA t-shirts!

Due to the overwhelming response to the MPCA t-shirts, we have put in another order. The shirts have a red, white, and blue design (the MPCA logo) on a grey shirt.

The cost is $15 per shirt. To order your t-shirt(s), please send an email to MPCA indicating your name, the quantity and size you would like. We are offering sizes S - XXL.
