MPCA's Tina Chan Sweenie Wins Franklin H. Williams Award

Congratulations to Tina Chan Sweenie, MPCA's Social Events Coordinator, for receiving this honor.  This award recognizes returned Volunteers for their continued commitment to community service in the spirit of the Peace Corps.

The Franklin H. Williams Award was created in 1999 by New York Regional Office recruiter Leslie Jean Pierre.  Mr. Jean-Pierre served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa in the mid-nineties.

Like the late Mr. Williams, Jean-Pierre was committed to diversity and inclusiveness.   When he learned of Mr. Williams’ involvement in establishing the Peace Corps, he recommended that the Peace Corps honor Mr. Williams’ vision that the Peace Corps should reflect the diversity of America.

Consequently, the award has been named in honor of Mr. Franklin H. Williams, an early architect of the Peace Corps whose legacy continues to embody the agency’s guiding principles of international development work.
